Dreams of Telmahre

Game Marketing - Marketing Intern

Team Name: Lantern Tower Games
Role: Marketing intern
Release Date: TBA
Platform: Steam
Duration: May 2026 – August 2026

Dreams of Telmahre looks to bring back the feel of classic puzzle-adventure games by exploring the intertwined dreams of three characters as players travel through different time periods.

As a Marketing Intern on the project, my goal was to establish the foundations for future marketing efforts while also generating Steam wishlists.

The challenge

Dreams of Telmahre had been in development for just under two years and had accumulated around 50 Steam wishlists. The goal was to eventually turn Dreams of Telmahre into a commercial release, but little marketing had been done up to that point. The studio owner was looking to bring someone on to jump-start its marketing efforts. The main challenges Dreams of Telmahre faced were:

  • No established community
  • Limited information about the game available online
  • Weak Steam store page
  • Little to no online presence
  • No established marketing strategy

My role

As the marketing intern on Dreams of Telmahre, I was instructed to generate wishlists, but I realized that more needed to be done beforehand since the groundwork wasn’t optimal:

  • Marketing Strategy: Develop and follow through on a marketing strategy for the game
  • Steam: Optimize the Steam page, such as tags and assets, to favor the algorithm
  • Press Outreach: A demo was being built, and it was an opportunity to reach different press to give the game some visibility.
  • Organic Social media: Reddit is proven to work; certain subreddits needed to be targeted to promote the game

Marketing Campaigns

Steam

For Dreams of Telmahre, the first step was optimizing the Steam page. For this, I made sure to create a better short description and tweak the About Us page to demonstrate the narrative strengths the game has. An effort was also made to change the game’s tags, so the Steam algorithm could show the game to people with similar interests.

Funding Research

The game is constantly looking for funding, and I did some research on possible contacts to reach out to that are aligned with the studio’s vision, and that could lead to possible funding

Press Outreach

More than 50 emails were sent to different press sites so the game could be picked up before the demo release. An email offering an early access key and insight into the development was sent

Reddit

Different subreddits were identified where we could post about Dreams of Telmahre to give the game some exposure. We identified different communities, such as games like Myst or game development communities

Actionable Marketing Plan

What I learned

Dreams of Telmahre left me with a couple of valuable lessons, mainly what it is like to work on a game at an earlier stage of development without a strong marketing foundation.

Through this project, I learned how to establish a marketing foundation for a game and build from there. I also learned how marketing strategies can differ significantly between genres and the importance of adapting your approach to the game’s target audience.
